CAA announces 2023 football schedule

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The Colonial Athletic Association has announced its 2023 football schedule, including first year member Campbell.

CAA Football will expand to 15 teams in 2023 with the addition of the Camels and North Carolina A&T.

The conference slate includes four home games and four road contests for each team. Under the league's new scheduling format, each team is paired with two permanent partners that it faces every season. The other six conference opponents rotate through the schedule, ensuring that all teams meet each other at least once at home and on the road over an eight-year period. Limiting air travel to reduce costs was also a priority in the new scheduling model, with most teams not having more than one flight each season during conference play.

Campbell will kick off the season on Thursday, August 31 hosting 2022 league co-champion William & Mary for its first CAA contest.

The Camels will then briefly step out of CAA play for a trip to The Citadel on September 9. CU will also travel to North Carolina Central on September 30 and North Carolina on November 4 in nonconference outings, all previously announced games.

Making its CAA road debut on September 16, Campbell travels to Monmouth, returning to Barker-Lane Stadium on September 23, hosting in-state and now conference foe, Elon.

Also making appearances at Barker-Lane Stadium in 2023 will be Maine on October 21 and Delaware on November 11.

The Camels will, meanwhile, travel to Hampton on October 7, Richmond on October 28, and North Carolina A&T for their regular season finale on November 18.
In CAA play, the Camels will be taking on three first time opponents (Maine, Richmond, Delaware), while facing off against three former Big South Conference rivals (Monmouth, Hampton, NC A&T).

CAA Football had five teams (Delaware, Elon, New Hampshire, Richmond and William & Mary) receive berths in the 2022 NCAA FCS playoffs. The five selections were the most for the conference since 2018 and marked the 11th time that at least four CAA teams were chosen for the playoffs.
