SPARTANBURG, S.C. –
Gediminas Mokseckas scored a career-high 20 points to lead Campbell to a 78-63 win over USC Upstate Wednesday at the G.B. Hodge Center.
Ricky Clemons and
Juan Reyna added 14 points each for the Camels (7-10, 2-3), who won their second in the last three games.
Jordan Gainey led USC Upstate (8-8, 3-2) with 22 points and Trae Broadnax added 11 for the Spartans, who lost for the first time at home this season (6-1).
After Gainey's three gave Upstate a 47-44 lead with 13:26 to play, the Camels answered with an 11-0 run to take the lead for good. Broadnax' layup in transition pulled the hosts within 64-59 with 4:43 remaining, but the Camels responded with a 13-2 spurt as Reyna had seven points and Clemons six in the span.
Clemons' free throws with 1:04 to play extended Campbell's lead to 77-61, and the Spartans missed six of their final seven shot attempts.
A junior from Lithuania, Mokseckas finished 6-of-8 from the field, 4-of-5 beyond the arc, and 4-of-6 from the line in 34 minutes. Clemons scored 12 of his 14 points in the final period, while Reyna had 11 in the second half for the Camels, who shot 52 percent (13-25) after the break.
Clemons was 4-of-6 overall from the field, including 1-of-1 from 3-point range, and made 5-of-8 from the line while playing 36 minutes of turnover-free basketball. Reyna knocked down 4-of-7 from the floor, 2-of-4 threes, and all four of his free throws in 23 minutes.
On the night, Campbell made 22-of-50 (.440) from the floor, 8-of-22 threes (.364) and converted 26-of-36 (.722) from the line. Upstate finished 26-of-63 (.413) from the field, made 9-of-28 (.321) triples, but only 2-of-3 from the stripe.
With
Anthony Dell'Orso pulling down a game-high 8 rebounds and
Jasin Sinani grabbing 7, Campbell finished with a 40-28 advantage on the glass.
Mokseckas matched his career high in the first half with 14 points on 5-of-6 shooting, including 3-of-3 beyond the arc.
Upstate led by as many as nine in the opening half and 39-33 at intermission, but Campbell wrapped a 12-0 run around the break.
Since Upstate joined the Big South in 2018-19, Campbell now stands 6-1 against the Spartans and has won the last four meetings.
The Camels start a two-game home stretch Saturday vs. Winthrop in a 2:00 p.m. tip-off.
