BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell continues Big South Conference play Wednesday with a 7 p.m. tip at USC Upstate.
The Camels (6-10, 1-3) dropped a 58-55 loss Saturday at UNC Asheville.

Jay Pal (16) hit double figures for the Camels, who led for more than 31 minutes, but could not hold off the Bulldogs.
USC Upstate (8-7, 3-1) has started 3-1 in the league for the third-straight year. Jordan Gainey came off the bench to score 18 points, while Trae Broadnax and Justin Bailey added 12 each for the Spartans Saturday in a 76-57 win over High Point.
NOTES:
- Campbell stands 1-6 in true road games this season, including a win Nov. 18 at Appalachian State. USC Upstate is 6-0 this year at the Hodge Center.
- Fifth-year senior Ricky Clemons leads the Camels - and ranks 11th in the Big South Conference - with a 12.75 scoring average. Joshua Lusane averages 10.6, while Anthony Dell'Orso (10.3) is the third-leading freshman scorer in the Big South.
- Last season's Big South co-freshman of the year Jordan Gainey leads the Spartans and ranks 5th among league scoring leaders (16.1), while Navy transfer Trae Broadnax averages 10.2. Justin Bailey (9.6) is 4th among BSC frosh ppg leaders.
- USC Upstate is 6-0 at home to start a season for the first time since the Spartans moved to the Division I level in 2007-08.
- Campbell and Upstate were rivals in the Atlantic Sun Conference from 2007-11 before the Camels re-joined the Big South.
- Since Upstate joined the Big South in 2018-19, Campbell stands 5-1 against the Spartans and has won the last three games.
- In the only meeting between the teams during the '21-22 season, Campbell shot a season-high 63.5 percent from the floor and defeated the Spartans 80-71 on Feb. 5 at the G.B. Hodge Center. Jordan Whitfield scored 17 points to lead five Camels in double figures.
- USC Upstate's G.B. Hodge Center has the smallest seating capacity (833) of all 358 NCAA Division I men's basketball members, just ahead of Charleston Southern's "Buc Dome" (881).
- The most notable USC Upstate hoops alumni is Torrey Craig (2010-14), the former A-Sun player of the year, who is now with the Phoenix Suns. Former Spartans right-handed pitcher Chad Sobotka played for the Atlanta Braves from 2018-20.
- Spartans head coach Dave Dickerson was an assistant to Ron Bradley in the Big South at Radford from 1992-96. Bradley, who was inducted into the Big South Hall of Fame in 2010, served as an assistant on Dickerson's Upstate staff through 2022. Dickerson was head coach at Tulane from 2005-10 and most recently served as associate head coach at Ohio State.
- Founded in 1967, USC Spartanburg changed its named to USC Upstate in summer of 2004 and now enrolls approximately 6,000 students.
- USC Upstate's nickname "Spartans" is a tribute to the area's Revolutionary War history. The Spartan Rifles were a local militia unit that played an important role in the Battle of Cowpens. In 2004, Upstate shortened its nickname to Spartans, but still pays tribute to the unit.
- Following Wednesday's game, the Camels start a two-game home stretch Saturday vs. Winthrop (2:00 p.m.).
