Butka joins Camels

BUIES CREEK - Dovydas Butka has joined the Fighting Camels out of the transfer portal following a season at Pepperdine. He joins the squad with two seasons of eligibility remaining.

The 6'9" Lithuanian averaged 9.6 points and 6.1 rebounds per game for the Waves last season as one of three players on the team to start all 35 games. His scoring average ticked up to 11.7 points per game in West Coast Conference Play.

"Dovydas has the unique combination of skill and physicality that we covet in this offense," Head Coach John Andrzejek said. "With hard work he is capable of having a very productive year for the Camels, similar to Alex Condon for the Gators.

"We are very excited to welcome Dovy (pronounced Doh - Vee), his wife & his dog to the Creek! Dovy is a hard worker with a quiet, business-like approach. In just a few weeks on campus he has already had a marked impact on our physicality and competitiveness. He will be a great fit for our program and culture!"

Butka scored in double figures 16 times last season with a season-high 25 in a double-double effort against LMU. He turned in four double-doubles during the year, logging a season best 13 boards to go with 14 points against Grambling.Nearly a third of his rebounds game on the offensive glass, hauling in 2.0 offensive boards per game.

Butka is an efficient passer from the power forward position, logging 2.2 assists per game last season, good for second on the team trailing only teammate Moe Odum, who ranked fourth in the nation in assists.

Before coming to the States, Butka played for Zalgiris Basketball Club in Lithuania, competing across the top two leagues in the country. He also has international experience playing in the EuroLeague and helped his home country to a second-place finish at the 2022 U20 European Championship.

Butka's arrival in Buies Creek marks the sixth consecutive season the Camels will have a Lithuanian on the squad, following five years with Gediminas Mokseckas and Laurynas Vaistaras.
