BUIES CREEK – Campbell, donning pink accessories for Dig Pink day to benefit the Side Out Foundation, rolled past College of Charleston in straight sets Saturday afternoon. The Camels hit .374 on the day and have won three of their last four CAA contests.
 
Campbell improves to 9-10, 6-3 with the win, while Charleston drops to 7-13, 4-5.
 
The Camels jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a 25-21 first-set victory. Coming out of a timeout, the Camels rattled off a 6-0 run to take the lead at 17-15 and would not relinquish it. Campbell held the Cougars to hitting .091 in the opening frame.
 
The Camels did everything right in the middle of the second set to held build a a nine point lead at 21-12. Campbell hit .500 during the second set with 19 kills and just three errors to put the set away at 25-19.
 
Campbell rolled right through the third set to finish off the match with a 25-9 set win, its largest set win of the season. It's the first time CU has held an opponent to single digits since Sept. 16, 2022 when they held Robert Morris to just six points. Campbell flew out to an 11-0 lead, with Gwen Wolkow serving 10 consecutive points. Claranne Fechter served seven straight herself later in the set.
 
Gwen Wolkow had a big day, leading all players with 14 kills on .444 hitting. Melody Paige joined her in double figures with 10 on .556 hitting. Claranne Fechter came up with 13 digs, and McKenna Sciacca dished out a match-high 20 assists.
 
Campbell and Charleston will square off again tomorrow at 1 p.m. on FloSports.
