BUIES CREEK – Campbell won its fifth consecutive match in straight-set fashion with a 3-0 victory over Northeastern on homecoming day in Buies Creek. The Camels have now won 15 consecutive sets, with the last set dropped coming back on Oct. 7.
The win knocks Northeastern down a rung in the CAA standings as Campbell holds firm in second place at 11-10, 8-3 in the league. Northeastern drops to 9-8, 7-4 with the loss. Campbell's five straight wins adds to its best win streak of the season, and matches the longest streak of straight-set victories since the 2020 (spring 2021) season.
Chloe Cook had a big day with a match-high 12 kills and the only individual in double figures.
Claranne Fechter had a match-high 15 digs, and the Camels posted 10 blocks as a team.
Campbell led the whole way through the first set, but could never fully put the Huskies away with Northeastern constantly hanging in striking distance. After the Huskies tied the set at 21 apiece, the Camels reeled off a 4-1 run to take the set 25-22.
Northeastern had Campbell on the ropes in the second set with a 20-15 lead, but Campbell roared back with a late 10-3 run to erase the lead and steal a 25-23 set win. Cook did the bulk of her damage on the day in the second set, putting down seven kills without an error in the stanza, including CU's last two points.
Campbell trailed 7-1 early in the third but didn't flinch and grabbed the largest set win of the day at 25-17. A 7-0 run put the Camels up comfortably at 23-15 and led to an
Emily Campe solo block for match point.
The Camels and Huskies square off again tomorrow at 1 p.m.
