BUIES CREEK – The Camels wrapped up a perfect four-match homestand with a fifth straight straight-sets win over Northeastern Sunday afternoon at Gore Arena. The win streak matches its longest without dropping a set since the 2020 (spring 2021) season.
The win helps Campbell to 12-10, 9-3 in the CAA to remain in second place. Northeastern drops to 9-9, 7-5 with the loss.
Campbell turned in a balanced offensive effort, led by
Gwen Wolkow's 10 kills and 13 digs. The middles each enjoyed solid days with
Melody Paige adding nine kills and
Aley Clent with eight.
Like yesterday, Campbell found itself trailing but wasn't phased. After trailing 15-7, the Camels stormed back to take the opener 25-21. Tuyo, Wolkow, and Paige all had three kills in the first frame along with four total aces.
The defense led the way in the second set, with only two Northeastern players recording a dig as CU held them to hitting .025 in the frame. The Camels led 24-15 but allowed a 7-0 run to Northeastern that had the final score look closer than the set was at 25-22.
Campbell put the match away with a 25-19 win in the final set. Campbell hit .400 in the third, led by Wolkow's five kills. CU never trailed in the final set to close out the victory.
Campbell heads north next weekend to take on Hofstra in Hempstead, N.Y. Both matches are set to begin at 1 p.m. on FloSports.
