Camels blank Gardner-Webb 3-0 on Senior Night

BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Three different Camels scored in the second half and Campbell defeated Gardner-Webb 3-0 Tuesday night at Eakes Athletics Complex.

On Senior Night the Camels (4-5-4) celebrated with its largest goal output of the season over the Runnin' Bulldogs (2-8-4).

"It's always special on senior night because the guys give so much to the program and this group is no exception," said head coach Dustin Fonder. "They are some pillars of the program in Bissafi and Kyoji; guys who have been here through championship seasons with us. It's always special when you can honor your seniors with a win."

Angel Bacho, who was one of five seniors honored along with Bissafi Dotte, Kyoji Hata, Hunter Johnson and Tiago Lopes, scored his first Campbell goal in the 55th minute. Bacho received a pass just outside the box from Curtis DeLeon on a corner and curled it through traffic and in.

"Bacho has the ability to score amazing goals and tonight that shot was top drawer," said Fonder. "He's been a class act for our program and it couldn't be better for him to score on senior night.

In the 74th minute, Adam Yousfi added another as Marco Wright dribbled in and to the end line, passed it back to Ioannis Moros who played it to Lyon, France native who tapped it in at the left post.

Filipe Matos recorded his first collegiate goal in the 87th as Yousfi's free kick found the head of Jake Roberts who played it back across the face of the goal and onto Matos who put it away.

Campbell outshot the Runnin' Bulldogs 15-13, 5-2 in shots on target. Both sides finished with five corners each.

Dotte made his 75th appearance tonight and his final one in Buies Creek. "Bissafi has been here since 2019, been apart of multiple championships," Fonder said. "He's a great leader and most importantly he's a great person. He's someone we will miss dearly because he means so much to our program."

Johnson, who made his first career appearance, combined with Samy Slimi for the shutout in goal. "Hunter puts in his time and he works hard. He's been in the weight room, put on more weight and making himself better. To reward him with a chance to go in goal was not only great for him but great for his teammates to be able to cheer him on."

Yousfi ran his team-leading point total to 15 points after recording his fifth goal and fifth assist. Campbell finished 4-1-3 in games played at Eakes this season with its only loss coming to #5/10 Wake Forest.

Campbell wraps up the regular season on the road at Monmouth in a pivotal CAA matchup.
