Camels top Towson in straight sets

Towson, MD – The Fighting Camels pulled off the upset to earn a weekend split with a straight-set win at Towson Sunday afternoon. Campbell has now split road series at both of last season's CAA Championship game participants.

The win helps Campbell improve to 8-10, 5-3 in the league. Towson drops to 13-5, 6-2 with the loss.

The Camels took command of the match early with a 25-18 first-set win. Campbell raced out to an early 12-5 advantage and never let the Tigers climb back into it, holding the league's top offense to hitting only .105 in the frame.

The second set was a nail-biter, with neither team leading by more than three. Campbell held off a pair of Towson set points before two kills from Wolkow and an error pushed the Camels to the 27-25 finish.

Campbell finished off the match with a 25-22 final set. After it appeared Towson drew within a point, but a well-taken challenge by head coach Greg Goral reversed the call and delivered Campbell the win.

Gwen Wolkow led the attack for the Camels with 12 kills. Chloe Cook added nine and Melody Paige had eight without an error. Claranne Fechter was strong on the back row with 15 digs in just three sets. McKenna Sciacca and Maddie Converse split assists evenly with 16 each.

The Camels return home next weekend to host College of Charleston. Both matches are set to begin at 1 p.m.
