Towson, Md. – Campbell earned its first CAA postseason win in program history with a straight-set victory over Northeastern Thursday Night at TU Arena. The win advances the Camels to the CAA semifinals where they'll face Delaware Friday night at 6:30 p.m.
Campbell held Northeastern to hitting below zero on the night (-0.054), its best defensive mark of the year, as well as the lowest percentage of the season for the Huskies. Northeastern had just 17 total kills in the match. CU last held an opponent below zero on Oct. 6, 2022 against Radford.
Chloe Cook proved why she was named first-team all-conference last week by posting a match-high 14 kills on .480 hitting.
Gwen Wolkow added 11, and
Melody Paige had seven on .385 hitting. Both Paige and
Aley Clent notched five blocks on the evening, as Campbell posted 10 as a team.
Claranne Fechter came away with a double-double on 18 digs and a season-high 10 assists.
Campbell had everything going right in the first set to take the opener 25-15. The defense stepped up early to hold the Huskies to hitting -0.222 with the help of six blocks along the front line. The offense did its job as well, hitting .265. Campbell got out to an 11-3 lead and went on to lead by as many as 12 during the set.
The Camels kept rolling through the second set to win it 25-13. Campbell used four service aces in the set to ignite the offense. The defense stayed stout and once again held the Huskies to hitting below zero.
For the first time all match, Campbell was shaky at the start of the third and found itself in an 8-1 hole early. Campbell was anything but phased and posted an 11-2 run to take the lead. Trailing again later,
Gwen Wolkow helped Campbell take over the set with three straight kills during a 9-0 run to take the lead for good.
Melody Paige polished things off with her fourth ace of the night for a 25-19 win.
The Camels now have their sights set on the Delaware Blue Hens tomorrow at 6:30. Campbell and Delaware split the season meeting in Newark, Del., with the hosts winning Saturday and the Camels leaving town with a win on Sunday. Tomorrow's match will be streamed on FloSports.
