BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell fell again on day two of the Creek Classic to Idaho State, 69-55. The loss drops Campbell to 1-4, while Idaho State moves to 3-3.
Laurynas Vaistaras posted a new career-high 18 points and tied a career-high with seven rebounds, but it wasn't enough for the Camels. No other Camels reached double figures, with
Gediminas Mokseckas and
Anthony Dell'Orso each finishing with nine.
The Camels turned the ball over 14 times in the first 20 minutes, leading to the Bengals getting up 10 more shots than CU in the first half. Idaho State also hauled in seven offensive rebounds to post seven second chance points.
The Camels trailed by only six with three minutes to go before the Bengals put together a 10-0 run to close the half. Dell'Orso had seven points at the half, but was responsible for four turnovers, as was Sinani.
Campbell never cut much into the lead in the second half, getting no closer than 13. Kolton Mitchell matched Vaistaras with 18 points off the bench, 11 of those in the second half, including three second-half three-pointers.
Tuesday was the first game of the season the Camels took less trips to the foul line than their opponent, Campbell went 9-11 at the stripe, and the Bengals went 12-15. Campbell struggled with some of Idaho State's size on the interior, as over half of of ISU's rebounds were on the offensive end.
Campbell will look to end its four-game slide tomorrow against The Citadel at 5 p.m. The Bulldogs are now 2-0 at the Creek Classic. That game will be broadcast on FloSports.
