BUIES CREEK – Campbell ended its four-game losing streak with a 65-58 win over The Citadel Wednesday evening. Ten different Camels scored tonight, and Campbell committed just five turnovers to help pick up the win.
The victory gets Campbell to 2-4, while The Citadel falls to 3-4.
Campbell cleaned some things up from the previous couple of games and surrendered only one second-half turnover and five for the game, a season low. The Camels also made a season-high nine three-pointers.
Laurynas Vaistaras led CU in scoring for the second straight night with 13 points.
Anthony Dell'Orso turned in the second double-double of his career with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Jasin Sinani scored nine points, all in the second half.
Campbell rolled out an entirely new starting lineup than its previous five games this season and it proved to be effective early, helping the Camels to a one-point lead when the first substitution came at the first media timeout. Four of the five new starters scored in the first half as Campbell had seven players score at least one bucket in the first 20 minutes.
Colby Duggan led Campbell scoring with six points at the break, while the Lithuanian duo of Mokesckas and Vaistaras had five each.
Sinani was the only Campbell starter without a first-half bucket, but he found his groove in the second half with three made three-pointers, including back-to-back triples to put Campbell up five with 2:36 to go.
Sinani provided the spark and the Camels were feeling it from deep down the stretch, going 6-13 from downtown in the second half, including Campbell's last four made field goals of the game. Dell'Orso and Vaistaras also tossed in triples during the barrage in the final minutes.
The Fighting Camels now head into a Thanksgiving break after playing three games in three days. They'll resume action next Wednesday on the road at Jacksonville. Tip-off in the Sunshine State is scheduled for 6 p.m. on ESPN+.
