SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO - Campbell defeated Morgan State 60-46 on Thanksgiving Day at the Puerto Rico Clasico at Ruben Rodriguez Arena.
Shy Tuelle led all scorers with 12 points for Campbell (4-1) who are off to its best start to a season since opening with a 7-1 record in 2018-19. Morgan State falls to 2-3 overall.
Morgan State jumped out to a 7-0 lead to start the game before the Camels answered with a 9-0 run and never looked back after Tuelle hit her first of four three-pointers to end the first period.
Heading into halftime with a 27-20 lead, the Camels clamped down defensively and limited the Bears to 2-of-14 shooting the third quarter. Gianni Boone scored all nine of her points in the fourth for the Camels who led by as many as 17.
Christabel Ezumah finished with eight points and eight boards while Gemma Nunez did it all with for the Camels with five points, four rebounds, three assists and a career-high five steals. Audrey Fuller provided five points, seven rebounds and two steals while Sarah Hammack Fitzgerald added six points and four boards.
The Camels made 42.9 percent (21-of-49) of their shots from the floor and limited the Bears to shoot 35 percent (19-of-54) from the field and 25 percent (3-of-12) from three. Campbell also scored 13 second-chance buckets and had 17 points off 20 Morgan State turnovers.
Campbell returns tomorrow for its final game of the Puerto Rico Clasico against Western Michigan at 6:30 PM (EST).
