SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO - Christabel Ezumah scored a season-high 20 points and Campbell defeated Western Michigan 70-61 Friday night at Ruben Rodriguez Coliseum.
Svenia Nurenberg added a career-high 16 points for the Camels who finish 2-0 at the Puerto Rico Clasico and improve to 5-1 on the season.
Western Michigan (1-3) was led by 17 points from Maggie Stutelberg and 13 points from Kaitlyn Zarycki. Stutelberg scored 12 of her 17 in the first half, going 4-for-4 from three to give the Broncos a 32-31 lead at halftime.
Campbell recovered and went on a 10-2 run midway through the third quarter, highlighted by consecutive steals and scores from Shy Tuelle and Christabel Ezumah, to take its largest lead of the night at 51-41.
The Broncos cut the lead to 60-58 with 3:35 remaining before the Camels went 8-of-10 from the charity stripe to seal the game.
Nurenberg, who scored 10 points in the final quarter, added six boards, four assists, three steals and one block. Ezumah added eight boards and four blocks while Gemma Nunez added a career-best eight rebounds.
Gianni Boone added nine points and Sarah Hammack Fitzgerald six for a Campbell bench unit that provided 19 points.
The Camels shot 44.4 percent (25-of-54) from both the field and from three (4-of-9) while the Broncos made 44.2 percent (23-of-52) from the floor and made 6-of-16 threes.
CU owned a 37-19 advantage on the boards and outscored WMU 38-28 in the paint, 14-4 on second chance buckets and 17-8 on breaks.
Campbell continues on the road at UCF next Sunday, Dec. 3 at 3:00 PM.
