ORLANDO, Fla. - Achol Akot made two free throws with 0.9 seconds remaining as UCF edged Campbell 42-41 Sunday afternoon at Addition Financial Arena.
Shy Tuelle led Campbell (5-2) with 12 points while Christabel Ezumah provided six points, four blocks and a game-high 12 rebounds.
Akot scored 12 of her game-high 14 in the second half and Kaitlin Peterson added nine for the Knights (7-0) who trailed by as many as 16 in the first half and by nine with 4:11 left.
The Knights went on a 12-2 run to close out the game, taking its first lead since the first quarter on Akot's second-chance layup with 44 seconds remaining. Tuelle's floater on the next possession gave Campbell a 41-40 lead with 19 seconds left before Akot's last second free throws sealed the game.
Campbell led 30-19 at halftime, sparked by a 10-0 run in the second quarter and seven first half points each from Tuelle and Gemma Nunez. CU led for over 31 minutes including 18:53 in the second half.
The Knights, who entered the game ranked in the top-30 nationally in both field goal percentage and three-point field goal percentage, shot 23.2 percent (13-of-56) from the field and 22.2 percent (4-of-18) from range. Campbell made 42.9 percent (18-of-42) from the floor and drilled 5-of-13 threes.
UCF scored 20 points off 26 Campbell turnovers and outscored the Camels 10-2 in second chance points and 9-0 on breaks. Both teams finished tied with 34 rebounds each while the Camels held a slight 22-18 edge in points in the paint.
Campbell has a quick turnaround as it returns to Gore Arena Tuesday for a 7:00 PM tip against NC Central.
