Campbell finishes homestand with win

BUIES CREEK – Campbell topped Morgan State 83-76 Monday night inside Gore Arena. The Camels shot 52% on the night, including 60% in the second half to go 3-0 on the recent homestand.

The win moves Campbell to 6-6 on the season, while Morgan State falls to 4-9. Campbell averaged 89.3 ppg during the three-game homestand and shot a total of 55% across the three games.

Anthony Dell'Orso led the Camels with 21 points on the night and was one of four in double figures. Colby Duggan added 13, with 10 coming in the second half. Elijah Walsh continued his hot shooting stretch, going 3-5 from downtown tonight, and is now 7-10 from distance in the last two games.

The Camels trailed by one at the break after Morgan State shot 51% in the first. Will Thomas poured in 15 in the first half and Amahrie Simpkins added 11 for the Bears. Campbell responded to the two hot hands for Morgan State by knocking down four triples in the first to hang around and trail 37-36 going into the locker room.

After scoring the first points of the second half the Camels never trailed again and led by as many as 10. Colby Duggan set the tone with two quick buckets including an and-one finish to put the Camels up five just three minutes into the half.

Campbell took only seven free throws in the first half but made a clear point to get the ball inside in the second and went 14-21 at the foul line in the second half. Leading by five with 0:37 left, Alex Kotov knocked down a pair to put the Camels back up seven and salt the game away.

Dell'Orso has now scored 20+ three times this season and has been in double figures in 10 of CU's 12 games thus far.

The Fighting Camels now get 11 days off before returning to action at St. Francis on Dec. 30 to round out non-conference play.
