BUIES CREEK – Campbell turned in its best offensive output of the season with a 87-56 win over Southern Virginia Saturday afternoon at Gore Arena. Five Camels scored in double figures while
Laurynas Vaistaras dished out nine assists.
The Camels improve to 3-5 on the year with the victory.
Vaistaras's nine assists are the most by a Camel in six seasons when Chris Clemons also had nine at Presbyterian on Feb. 24, 2018. Vaistaras finished with a busy stat line of 11 points, nine assists, three rebounds, and four steals.
Colby Duggan led the Camels with 16 points and becomes the fifth different player to lead the team in scoring so far this season. Duggan went 6-10 from the floor ad 4-7 from distance to tie the most made threes in a game by an individual this season.
Campbell raced out to its largest scoring half of the year with a 50-28 lead at halftime.
Alex Kotov had a big first half to lead Campbell with 10 first-half points. Campbell shot 50% from the floor in the first half, including four made triples. The Camels also took used their size advantage well, going 14-16 at the foul line in the first.
Vaistaras did most of his work in the second half, with seven points and five assists in just 11 minutes on the court after halftime. A couple of late dunks from
Elijah Walsh and
Mason Grant put an exclamation point on the win for the Camels.
Ten different players scored for the second time this season. One that didn't score,
Broc Bidwell, did lead the team with a career-high six rebounds.
The Camels now set their sights on a road game at Davidson on Wednesday, Dec. 6. Tip-off at Belk Arena is set for 7 p.m. on ESPN+.
