Camels drop road test at Davidson

DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Camels led for over 25 minutes tonight but couldn't quite hang on in a 62-50 loss to Davidson Wednesday at Belk Arena.

The loss sets Campbell back to 3-6, while Davidson improves to 6-3.

Anthony Dell'Orso splashed a three on the first possession of the game and Campbell didn't trail in the first 20 minutes. The Camels raced ahead to a 9-2 lead to force a Davidson timeout before the first media. Dell'Orso led all scorers with 11 at the break, while no Davidson player had more than six, with each of those two players getting there on two made triples.

Campbell kept the defensive intensity high during the first half and held the Wildcats to shooting only 26% from the floor to help Campbell to a 25-21 halftime advantage.

Davidson took its first lead of the game nearly six minutes into the first half on an and-one to put the Wildcats up 32-31. Colby Duggan helped the Camels offense with a pair of early triples to answer the Wildcats scoring. The lead changed hands a couple of times over the next few minutes, before Davidson took the lead for good at the 10:46 mark of the second half. Davidson's largest lead of the night was 12 just before the final horn sounded.

It was a tough shooting night for the Camels, going just 4-25 from downtown and 6-13 at the foul line. Dell'Orso finished with a game-high 16 along with team-highs six rebounds and three assists. Laurynas Vaistaras added 15 points and five boards as well.

Dell'Orso has now scored in double figures in four straight games, and seven of Campbell's nine this season.

Davidson had four players double figures tonight, led by Bobby Durkin's 13 and three more Wildcats with 11 apiece. The Camels held Davidson's leading scorer and rebounder, David Skogman, to just six points and four rebounds tonight before he fouled out.

The Camels return to action Tuesday at home against Pfeiffer. Tip-off in Buies Creek is set for 7 p.m. on FloHoops.
