HIGH POINT, N.C. - High Point defeated Campbell 48-47 Thursday night at the Qubein Center.
The Camels wrap up non-conference play with a 7-4 record while High Point improves to 5-9 overall.
In a game that featured six lead changes and seven ties, Campbell had a chance to win it on the final possession but had its shot blocked as time expired.
Svenia Nurenberg led the Camels with 10 points and six boards while Christabel Ezumah added nine points. Gemma Nunez recorded eight points, six boards, two assists and two steals.
After trailing 15-11 at the end of the first quarter, Campbell buckled down defensively and held High Point scoreless for 11:25 across the second and third quarters. The Camels went ahead by as many as six after a banked in three from Nunez and a layup from Sarah Hammack Fitzgerald.
Campbell led the entire fourth quarter until Bukky Akinsola made a pair of free throws to put High Point up 46-45. Ezumah drew a shooting foul on the other end and sank both free throws to put Campbell back up 47-46 with 16.9 seconds left. High Point sealed the game as Amaria McNear made two free throws with 7.3 seconds remaining.
Ezumah recorded one block and tied Lauren McNamara-Clement (2017-21) for third in program history with 101 in her career.
CU shot 40.5 percent (17-of-42) from the floor and limited the Panthers to 34.5 percent (19-of-55) shooting from the field and 1-of-21 from three.
Campbell returns after the holiday break and begins CAA play with games at Stony Brook (Jan. 5) and last season's conference tournament champions Monmouth (Jan. 7).
