Camels fall in CAA opener at Stony Brook

BUIES CREEK, N.C. -  Khari Clark and Gigi Gonzalez combined for 38 points to lead Stony Brook to a 73-43 win over Campbell Friday at Island Federal Credit Union Arena in the CAA opener for both teams.

Stony Brook (11-1, 1-0), who entered with the league's best record in non-conference play, went on a 14-0 run to end the first half and never looked back.

Campbell (7-5, 0-1), whose three-game losing stretch marks just the third time the program has suffered such a streak in the Ronny Fisher era, was led by Christabel Ezumah's 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Svenia Nurenberg recorded seven points, two rebounds and three steals while Sarah Hammack Fitzgerald added six points.

Clark, the reigning CAA player of the week, led the Seawolves with 21 points on 10-of-14 shooting from the floor to go along with six boards and four blocks while Gonzalez provided 17 points and dished out six assists.

Stony Brook made 46.8 percent (29-of-62) of its shot from the field, converted 20 points off 16 turnovers and out-rebounded the Camels 45-33. Campbell shot 26.3 percent (15-of-57) from the field, 20 percent (4-of-20) from three and converted 9-of-12 free throws.

Ezumah recorded her fourth double-double of the season and passed Lauren McNamara-Clement for third place on the program's all time blocks list with her 102nd career rejection.

Campbell returns to action Sunday as it travels to West Long Branch, N.J. to face defending CAA champions Monmouth at 2:00 PM.
