BUIES CREEK, N.C. – After a season-opening win, Campbell has taken all three Big South player of the week awards.
Sam Bischoff was named offensive player of the week, while
Shae Fitzgerald took defensive and
Delaney Nicolaus earned top freshman honors following the Camels'
18-7 victory over the Hatters.
Bischoff posted career-highs of 10 points and eight goals, adding two assists with eight draw controls, four ground balls and one caused turnover. The junior finished the game one goal and one point shy of CU individual single game records. Her eight scores came on just 15 shots, putting 11 on frame. The Pomona, N.Y. midfielder led Campbell to a 6-3 lead at the half, scoring four goals in the first two periods, before helping the Camels outscore the Hatters 12-4 in the second half, with four more goals and two assists.
Fitzgerald caused three turnovers and picked up four ground balls while registering six draw controls in the win. The senior from New Market, Md. helped limit the Hatters to just four second half goals on 14 shots, while besting Stetson in ground balls, 28-17, and draw controls, 18-10, for the game.
Nicolaus, meanwhile, scored a goal and added three ground balls, a draw control and a caused turnover in her collegiate debut. The freshman's second quarter score put Campbell on top 4-2. She was one of four Camels to pick up three or more ground balls in the win.
Next up, Campbell heads on the road for three straight, starting with East Carolina on February 22, returning home on March 4, hosting Old Dominion.
