Dell’Orso leads Campbell over High Point 82-66

Career-high 26 leads five Camels in double digits

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Anthony Dell'Orso hit career highs with 26 points and 10 rebounds to lead Campbell to an 82-66 win over High Point Wednesday at Gore Arena.

Dell'Orso led five Camels in double digits as Campbell (11-14, 6-7 Big South) swept the season series from the Panthers (11-14, 3-10) for the second-straight year.

Jay Pal (14), Ricky Clemons (12), Joshua Lusane (11) and Gediminas Mokseckas (10) reached double digits for Campbell, which shot 58.8 percent (30-51) from the floor, 69.6 percent (16-23) in the second half.

Bryson Childress, nephew of Campbell Hall of Fame guard Brad Childress, led the Panthers with a career-high 20 points, including 5-of-10 threes.  Jaden House and Zack Austin added 12 each, while Abdoulaye Thiam chipped in 10 for High Point, which finished 24-of-58 from the floor and made 9-of-28 threes.

In a game of runs, Campbell wrapped a 19-3 burst around halftime and led by 16 (49-33) after Dell'Orso 3-point play with 15:33 remaining.  Childress' pullup three trimmed the gap to 66-61 with 3:59 to go, but the Camels hit their final five shots and made 6-of-8 from the line in the last 58.4 seconds to seal the victory.

A freshman from Melbourne, Australia, Dell'Orso made 11-of-14 shots, including 3-of-4 threes, pulled down 10 boards on the defensive end, dealt two assists and did not commit a turnover in 35 minutes.  He also scored 18 points two weeks ago in a 72-64 win at High Point.

Clemons added six rebounds, six assists and three steals, while Lusane chipped in six rebounds, three assists and two blocks in 21 minutes off the bench.

Campbell closed the opening half on a 16-3 run and took a 33-26 lead at the break.  The Camels shot 50 percent in the opening period and knocked down 5-of-15 threes, including four in the late burst.  Dell'Orso had 12 points, including a pullup jumper at the buzzer, and six boards in the first half.

High Point made just 30 percent of its shots before intermission and missed eight of its last nine attempts from the floor.

Campbell, Winthrop and USC Upstate are tied for fifth place tie in the Big South standings with five games left in the regular season.  The top six teams in the final league standings will earn a bye into the quarterfinal round of next month's Big South Championship.

The Camels (10-14, 5-7) are coming off a 74-50 loss Saturday at defending league champ Longwood.  Jay Pal scored 15 points, but the Lancers shot 53 percent from the floor.

Even with leading scorer Jaden House (17.8) out of the lineup, High Point (11-13, 3-9) snapped a 4-game losing streak Saturday with an 81-73 victory over Charleston Southern.  Zack Austin led four Panthers in double figures with 19 points.
