Box Score BOONE, N.C. – The Campbell power continued to be on display in Boone as Campbell topped App State 12-6 to take the series Saturday afternoon. The Camels scored at least 10 runs for the fourth straight game and eighth time this year.
No. 24 Campbell now sits at 12-2 on the year and has not dropped a series, while App loses its fourth game in a row and drops to 8-5.
Drew Winters up Campbell on the board early with a two-run shot in the first, his second home run of the season. App responded with a three-run homer in the home half to quickly take the lead.
That three-run shot was nearly all the Mountaineers would get off Campbell starter
Chance Daquila, who settled in to retire 13 of the next 15 he faced, and allowed only two base runners between the second and sixth innings. He finished with a line of 6.1 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 4 K.
An RBI single from
Logan Jordan and a two-run blast from
Jarrod Belbin put the Camels ahead 5-3 in the second inning.
Lawson Harrill later broke the game open with a fifth-inning grand slam, Campbell's first grand slam of the season.
The Camels capped their scoring with three manufactured runs in the seventh, scoring via single, fielder's choice, and sac fly.
App threatened to climb back into it in the home half of the seventh with the bases loaded and one out, but reliever
Jeremy Wiegman got a little help from his defense with
Tyler Halstead laying out in right center to erase what could've been a three-run double. App settled for just one run in the frame.
While the Camels were held to only eight hits on the day, they continued to find ways on base working seven walks and three HBP. Harrill led the way going 3-4 with 4 RBI, 2 runs and a walk. Winters also reached four times with two hits and was hit by two pitches.
Sunday's series finale has been canceled due to snow in the forecast in Boone. Campbell's next action will now be Tuesday at Coastal Carolina. First pitch in Conway, S.C. is set for 6 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
