BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The Colonial Athletic Association and its member football institutions have announced 2023 kickoff times for all league games.
The announcement includes first year CAA member Campbell's full 2023 home slate.
Campbell will kick off the season on Thursday, August 31 at 7:00 p.m. hosting 2022 league co-champion William & Mary for its first CAA contest.
Making its CAA road debut on September 16, Campbell travels to Monmouth for a 1:00 p.m. matchup, returning to Barker-Lane Stadium on September 23, hosting in-state and now conference foe, Elon, at 6:00 p.m.
Also making appearances at Barker-Lane Stadium in 2023 will be Maine on October 21, set for a 4:00 p.m. Homecoming kickoff, and Delaware on November 11 at 1:00 p.m. for the Camels' home finale.
The Camels will, meanwhile, travel to Hampton on October 7 (2:00 p.m.), Richmond on October 28 (3:30 p.m.), and North Carolina A&T (1:00 p.m.) for their final 2023 regular season outing on November 18.
In CAA play, the Camels will be taking on three first time opponents (Maine, Richmond, Delaware), while facing off against three former Big South Conference rivals (Monmouth, Hampton, NC A&T).
Kickoff times for CU road games at The Citadel (September 9), North Carolina Central (September 30) and North Carolina (November 4) will be announced at a later date.
CAA Football will expand to 15 teams in 2023 with the addition of the Camels and North Carolina A&T.
The conference slate once again includes four home games and four road contests for each team. Under the league's new scheduling format, each team is paired with two permanent partners that it faces every season. The other six conference opponents rotate through the schedule, ensuring that all teams meet each other at least once at home and on the road over an eight-year period. Limiting air travel to reduce costs was also a priority in the new scheduling model, with most teams not having more than one flight each season during conference play.
CAA Football had five teams (Delaware, Elon, New Hampshire, Richmond and William & Mary) receive berths in the 2022 NCAA FCS playoffs. The five selections were the most for the conference since 2018 and marked the 11th time that at least four CAA teams were chosen for the playoffs.
Following the 2022 season, a school record 12 Camels were named to Big South all-conference teams, while eight earned Academic All-District honors from the College Sports Communicators, yet another program record.
First Team All-Big South performers
Mike Edwards, an offensive tackle, and long snapper
Jackson Hayes also earned All-America honors from multiple publications, while defensive back
Myles Rowser picked up Freshman All-America accolades.
Campbell also set a school passing yards record (2,915) for the second straight season, on top of hauling in the top recruiting class in the FCS for the second consecutive year.
