No. 18 Campbell tops Highlanders 13-2

RADFORD, Va. - The No. 18 Fighting Camels won their fifth straight game and 17th consecutive series opener with a 13-2 victory over Radford Friday afternoon. Campbell blasted five home runs for the fourth time this season, with four of them coming in a big third inning to propel Campbell to the win.

Campbell improves to 17-3, 4-0 on the season, while Radford falls to 7-15, 0-1 in the league. The Camels have now outscored Big South opponents 46-8 through four league games.

There was nothing too flashy about the Camels early 3-0 lead, using a squeeze bunt in the first and a bases loaded walk and sac fly in the second inning.

The power showed up in a major way in the third inning. Logan Jordan, Grant Knipp, Jarrod Belbin, and Bryce Arnold all went deep during the frame to break the game open. Campbell scored nine in the inning on six hits, and led 12-0 by the end of the third inning.

That was far more than Campbell starter Cade Kuehler needed, who picked up his fifth win of the season. The junior carrier a no-hitter into the fifth inning before allowing one single in each the fifth and sixth, and didn't allow any runners to advance beyond first base. Kuehler posted a final line of 6.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 5 K.

Radford got on the board against Daniel Brown in the seventh inning, and added one more against Garrett Kangas in the eighth. Trent Adams tossed the final 2.0 innings scoreless.

Grant Knipp, batting in the nine-hole, capped the scoring with his second home run of the day in the ninth inning. It was Knipps first multi-home run game of the season. The nine-spot in the Campbell order has now provided three home runs in the last two games, with Trenton Harris hitting a big one against ECU Wednesday night.

Knipp finished the day 2-3 with 2 HR, 4 RBI and walked twice. Howard, Harrill, and Arnold all accounted for two hits on the day as well.

The Camels and Highlanders return to action tomorrow at 4 p.m. Chance Daquila is expected to get the start for Campbell.
