Unbeaten at home this season at 3-0, the Camels are coming off an
18-11 win over Marist last week, outscoring the Red Foxes 10-2 in the second half. Marist led 6-1 early in the first period, and held a 9-4 edge with 11:32 to go in the second frame before CU exploded for a 14-2 margin over the remainder of the game.
Joslin Hanbury led the Camels with a career-high seven points on five goals and two assists, including four scores and both helpers coming in CU's decisive run.
Sam Bischoff added five points on three goals and two assists, while
Olivia Ohlmann scored a career-high four goals in the win.
Defensively,
Chandler Stewart and
Rebekah Taylor both tallied three caused turnovers and four ground balls, while
Katie Ochall also picked up four ground balls with two caused turnovers and six draw controls.
Emma Strickland came off the bench for the final 50:47, making 10 saves, including five in the fourth period, adding a ground ball.
Bischoff leads the Camels on the season with 29 points on 25 goals and four assists, while
Rasa Welsh adds 25 points on nine goals and 16 assists. Hanbury and
Ally Heath have also combined for 21 goals, with
Delaney Nicolaus adding nine goals and five assists.
Rebekah Taylor anchors the defense with 14 ground balls and 12 caused turnovers, while
Shae Fitzgerald owns a team-high 21 ground balls with 10 caused turnovers.
Chandler Stewart has also gathered 14 ground balls with 11 caused turnovers for the Camels.
Coastal is 5-3 overall on the season, coming off a 21-6 win over Marist last week. Saturday will be the first road outing for the Chanticleers this season.
Kayla Downey leads CCU with 42 points on 25 goals and 17 assists, while Avery McIlwaine and Hope Steuerwald added 17 goals apiece. Claudia Kelly has also caused nine turnovers with nine ground balls.
Saturday will mark the 10
th all-time meeting between the Chanticleers and the Camels, the most of any current nonconference opponent for CU. The two programs were Big South Conference rivals from 2013-16.
Next up, the Camels will open Big South play at home, taking on Radford on Wednesday, March 29 at 6:00 p.m.
