CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Allyiah Swiney has been named Big South Co-Freshman of the Week, the conference office announced Monday afternoon. Longwood's Maggie Chapin shared the award with Swiney.
Swiney helped Campbell (23-9, 5-1) to a 4-0 record on the week, picking up a midweek win over Queens and a series sweep over USC Upstate.
A native of Hamlet, N.C., Swiney hit .455 on the week (5-for-11) recording one home run, five RBI, eight total bases, five runs and a stolen base.
Swiney went 1-for-2 and scored two runs against Queens on Wednesday.
In Campbell's first game against USC Upstate she provided a pivotal RBI single and stole a base to eventually score the game-winning run in a 2-1 win. Later that day Swiney hit a walk-off grand slam to run-rule the Spartans and secure the series with a 10-2 (5 inn.) win.
She wrapped up her week by going 2-for-4 and scoring the game winning run for a 4-3 (8 inn.) win over USC Upstate, giving the Camels the series sweep.
This is the third time this season Swiney has earned freshman of the week honors (3/6, 2/14), the most of any freshman in the Big South this season. Campbell has had at least one player earn player, pitcher or freshman weekly honors each week this season.
The Camels return to action Saturday in a doubleheader against Presbyterian at Amanda Littlejohn Stadium.
