LAFAYETTE, LA. – Campbell locked in its third series win of the season with an 8-6 victory over Louisiana Saturday afternoon. All nine Camels in the batting order collected a hit, marking the sixth time in just nine games this season Campbell has had 10+ hits in a game.
The win is Campbell's sixth in a row as the team improves to 8-1 , while Louisiana drops its third straight and falls to 6-4.
Louisiana struck first with a pair of runs in the second off Campbell starter
Chance Daquila. But the Camels responded quickly by stringing together three straight two-out hits in the third inning to plate three runs and go up 3-2.
Grant Knipp delivered the biggest with a two-run single back up the middle.
Tied 4-4 in the sixth,
Drake Pierson and
Logan Jordan each drove home runs deep to left to help Campbell post a three-spot and take a three run lead. The blasts were Pierson's fourth of the year and Jordan's first.
Daquila exited after five for the third time this season, finishing with a final line of 5.0 IP, 7 H 4 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 2 K. Some timely hitting in the sixth helped him earn his third win of the season.
The Cajuns threatened in the eight, pushing one across still with second and third and nobody out.
Aaron Rund escaped the jam by coming up with three straight strikeouts to keep the Camels leading by a pair.
Grant Knipp tacked on an insurance run in the ninth with an RBI single to round out the Campbell scoring.
Rund was in trouble again in the ninth with the bases loaded and one out, but escaped with a sac fly and strikeout to leave the potential tying run standing on second base to collect the four-inning save. Rund struck out six across his four innings of work and allowed two runs.
Pierson, Jordan, and Knipp all had two hits, with Knipp leading the charge with three RBIs.
The Camels will look for the series sweep tomorrow at 2 pm ET / 1 CT.
Ernie Day is expected to start on the mound for Campbell.
