FARMVILLE, VA. – The bats went quiet for No. 14 Campbell in a 6-3 loss to Longwood Saturday afternoon.
The loss drops Campbell to 26-8, 12-2 in the Big South. Longwood improves to 15-25, 5-9 in the league.
Campbell struck first on an RBI single from
Jarrod Belbin in the first inning, but Longwood answered with four of its own in the home half to lead 4-1 after an inning. The Lancers scored another against
Chance Daquila in the second inning to go up 5-1.
Boxrucker took over on the mound and kept the Lancers off the board throughout the middle frames tossing four scoreless innings while striking out seven.
Meanwhile, Campbell struggled to get things going on offense, notching only one hit from the second through fifth innings. The Camels threatened in the sixth with second and third nobody out, but a lineout and pair of strikeouts ended the threat without a run.
Bryce Arnold put the Camels on the board for the first time since the first inning with a two-run double in the seventh, but that ultimately capped Campbell's scoring for the day.
Campbell collected seven hits on the day, led by two each from Arnold and
Tyler Halstead.
The Camels and Lancers return for the series rubber match tomorrow at 1 o'clock. Cam O'Brien is expected to be on the bump for the Camels. That game will be streamed on ESPN+.
