No. 14 Campbell wins series at Longwood

FARMVILLE, VA. – No. 14 Campbell scored in six straight innings to close out the game and secure the road series win at Longwood with a 16-5 victory Sunday afternoon. The offense bounced back from scoring just three yesterday scoring 16 runs on 16 hits in Sunday's contest.

Campbell improves to 27-8, 13-2 in the Big South. Longwood falls to 15-24, 5-10 in the league.

The Camels got on the board in the first inning for the third time this weekend to go up 2-0, but Longwood responded by scoring two in the home half. The Lancers later went up 3-2 in the third.

Down a run, Campbell scored 13 straight runs, scoring in each of the final six innings. Logan Jordan got things going with a go-ahead two-run blast in the fourth, and Drew Winters following suit with a two-run blast the next inning.

After pushing the lead to 10-3, the Camels added plenty of insurance with a six run ninth inning, using four hits, two errors, and three free passes. Belbin and Knipp both doubled in the inning, along with a two-run single by Lawson Harrill.

Campbell's offense kept the pressure on the Longwood defense all game, swiping eight bags, led by a program-record five steals from Tyler Halstead. Halstead's previous career-best was four against High Point last season which was then tied for the record.

Six different Camels drove in runs, led by three from both Belbin and Jordan. Jordan had a big day at the plate going 4-6 with 3 RBI and two runs scored. Belbin scored a team-high three times to lead 10 different Camels that scored a run.

Cameron O'Brien earned his third win of the year on the bump, throwing five innings and allowing three earned.

Jackson Roberts pitched 2.1 scoreless in relief, helped out by Jeremy Wiegman working out of a bases loaded jam in the eighth.

The Camels return to action Tuesday at UNCW. First pitch at Brooks Field is set for 6 p.m. and will be broadcast on FloSports.
