BUIES CREEK, N.C. – For the third time this season, Campbell's
Shae Fitzgerald has been named Big South Defensive Player of the Week.
Fitzgerald led the Camels in caused turnovers and draw controls, while matching the team-high in ground balls over two more Big South wins. The senior defender posted seven caused turnovers, seven ground balls and 12 draw controls, adding an assist to help CU remain perfect in Big South play.
On Wednesday at Gardner-Webb, the New Market, Md. native collected a career-high 11 draw controls to go along with three caused turnovers and two ground balls in a 20-16 win. On Saturday against Longwood, Fitzgerald tacked on four caused turnovers with five ground balls and an assist in an 18-10 Big South victory.
So far this season, Camels have earned Big South weekly honors nine times.
Fitzgerald and the Campbell defense lead NCAA Division I in both caused turnovers per game (14.29) and ground balls per game (22.14).
The Camels will head on the road for their final regular season matchup away from Buies Creek on April 22 at Winthrop, returning home for showdowns with High Point (April 26) and Mercer (April 29).
