CLINTON, S.C. – Campbell split Thursday's double header at Presbyterian, taking the opener 14-7 before dropping the nightcap 3-1. The loss was Campbell's first league loss of the year.
Campbell moves to 23-6, 9-1 on the season while the Blue Hose improve to 13-9, 6-5 for the year.
Game One Recap
Campbell went deep four times and overcame five errors en route to a 14-7 win.
Jarrod Belbin hit his second leadoff home run in the last five days to start things off for the Camels. The Aussie added to the lead with a two-run double in the second to put Campbell up 3-0.
Lawson Harrill and
Max Weller added two more in the fourth inning going back-to-back.
A two-run double from Halstead in the sixth stretched the lead to 9-3, but PC wasn't going quietly. A pair of Campbell miscues set up a three-run seventh and a three-run home run that cut the lead to just 9-7.
Holding just a two-run lead heading to the ninth,
Grant Knipp provided some major insurance with a grand slam to cap a five-run frame and put the Camels up 14-7.
Cameron O'Brien earned the win on the hill after tossing a career-long five innings, allowing just three runs and striking out five.
Aaron Rund picked up the extended save for working the last four innings, surrenduring four runs (zero earned), and punching out six.
The duo of Harrill and Weller had big days, each logging three hits with Weller scoring four times.
Game Two Recap
Cade Kuehler turned in a brilliant start, but PC tagged the Campbell bullpen for three runs to take game two 3-1.
Kuehler turned in a career-high 13 strikeouts and worked a no-hitter through 5.1 innings. Kuehler struck out seven straight hitters from the fourth to sixth innings, including the rare four strikeout inning in the fifth with a dropped third strike. He exited in line for the win after six shutout innings allowing just the one hit and two walks.
Campbell got on the board in the second inning with
Jonah Oster driving in
Max Weller to go up 1-0. Weller and Oster were the only two Camels to log multiple hits in the game with two each.
Campbell had a chance to add another run in the seventh, but
Jarrod Belbin was thrown out at the plate to end the inning attempting to tag on a flyball to shallow center.
Working with a slim 1-0 lead,
Ty Cummings loaded the bases with nobody out in the eighth before handing the ball off the
Cade Boxrucker. PC evened the score on a sac fly before Merkle drove in a pair with a double to center field to go ahead 3-1.
The Camels got nothing more than a two-out walk in the ninth to fall 3-1.
