CLINTON, S.C. – Nearly seven hours after the scheduled first pitch, No. 14 Campbell took the series with a 9-6 win over Presbyterian Friday night. The game began an hour and a half after the original 4 p.m. start time, and went into a 2:45 minute rain delay in the middle of the fifth inning with the game tied 5-5.
The Camels improve to 24-6, 11-1 in the Big South. Presbyterian falls to 13-20, 6-6 in the league.
Bryce Arnold put the Camels on the board with a first-inning opposite field home run, his team-high 12
th of the year. Belbin scampered home on a wild pitch in the third to add another.
Campbell pushed the lead to 5-0 with three manufactured runs in the fourth. A sac fly, single, and bases loaded walk after an 11 pitch at-bat from
Max Weller.
The Blue Hose once again had a big inning in them, quickly evening the game with a five-run fourth.
Jackson Roberts inherited bases-loaded one out and fanned a pair to escape the jam and keep the game tied and lead the game into a rain delay.
Two and a half hours later Roberts picked up where he left off, striking out the side in the fifth after the restart to strike out the first five batters he faced. Roberts was lights out the rest of the way, pitching the final 5.2 and striking out eight to earn the win.
Roberts finished with a final line of 5.2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 8 K.
With Roberts rolling, Campbell took the lead with three more manufactured runs in the sixth. PC walked the bases loaded to set up a sac fly, RBI walk, and run scoring wild pitch.
Bryce Arnold finished with a career-high five hits on a 5-6 night with two RBI and a home run. Belbin, Halstead and Knipp all finished with two hits apiece on the night.
Campbell returns home for a big midweek series with No. 17 Coastal Carolina. The two will wrap up a season-long three-game series with games Monday at 6 p.m. and Tuesday at 4 p.m.
