CHAPEL HILL, N.C. –
Logan Jordan's bases-loaded hit-by-pitch in the ninth lifted No. 13 Campbell to a dramatic 6-5 win over North Carolina Tuesday night at Boshamer Stadium. The win was Campbell's first over UNC since 2007.
The Camels improve to 32-10, while UNC falls to 28-17. The win also snaps the brief two-game slide and puts Campbell back in the win column.
The Camels and Tar Heels traded runs early in the second and third innings beginning with a
Drew Winters two-run blast in the second, going to the opposite field for his fourth home run of the year. After UNC got on the board in the home half,
Logan Jordan pushed the lead to two again with a two-out RBI single in the third. Winters had an opportunity to add to the lead but left the bases loaded.
Carolina quickly capitalized on Campbell leaving them loaded with a four-run third to go up 5-3.
The score stayed right there until the seventh inning, when
Jarrod Belbin's single set up a game-tying two-run bomb from
Bryce Arnold, his team leading 15
th of the year.
Tied 5-5, Camels took the lead in the ninth with the first four batters reaching, via double, bunt single, and two straight HBPs to drive in the go-ahead run. Still threatening with the bases loaded and nobody out, a failed squeeze bunt turned into a double play to leave Campbell up just one.
Carolina looked in position to tie or even win it with two on and one out in the ninth, but
Aaron Rund rolled a 6-4-3 double play to end the game.
Cade Boxrucker worked 4.1 innings of relief, allowing five runs, four earned, and struck out eight.
Ty Cummings and
Aaron Rund combined to pitch the final 3.2 innings scoreless. Cummings (3-1) earned the win and Rund picking up his fifth save of the year.
Aside from the big third inning, Campbell pitching worked in and out of trouble all night, inducing UNC into hitting only 2-13 with RISP and 5-23 with runners on.
Bryce Arnold led the Camels at the dish going 2-4 with two RBI and three runs scored.
Tyler Halstead and
Lawson Harrill each had a pair of hits as well.
The Camels have another quick turnaround with a home tilt against Elon tomorrow night. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
