Boulder, Colo. – Campbell dropped the season opener in five sets to North Texas Friday night at the CU Events Center at the Buffs Invitational. After UNT took the opening frame, the sides traded sets the whole way for a 3-2 Mean Green win.
Gwen Wolkow set a new career-high with 16 kills on the night, joined by
Chloe Cook who also had 16 to help lead the Campbell offense.
McKenna Sciacca also dished out a career-high 28 assists playing in front of her friends and family as a native of nearby Monument, Colo. The redshirt-senior setter notched a double-double with 13 digs as well.
Campbell dropped the first set 25-16 with little answer for the UNT attack that hit .382 in the set to Campbell's .083.
Gwen Wolkow got off to a hot start with four kills in the opening frame.
The Camels bounced back with a 25-19 second set win. The Camels led by as many as eight at 21-13. The Mean Green were able to cut that lead to three, but a UNT error and kills from Wolkow and
Emily Campe rounded out the set win.
After dropping the third set, Campbell once again rebounded to force a fifth set. The Camel attack delivered its cleanest set of the night with just two errors in the fourth stanza while hitting .297.
Campbell struggled to gain any momentum in the fifth set, committing five errors against only six kills as they dropped the final set 15-8.
The Camels return to action tomorrow to face Colorado at 8 pm ET/6 pm MT. That match will be live streamed on CUBuffs.com.
