Game Recap: Volleyball |

Campbell falls 3-1 to UNLV

Boulder, Colo. – It was a match of missed chances for the Camels as they fell to UNLV 3-1 Sunday afternoon in Boulder, Colo. Campbell dropped two of the three sets by the minimum two points and held at least one set point in each of them.

The loss drops Campbell to 0-3 to begin the season.

The Camels fell behind 10-3 early in the first set and were never able to climb back into it. UNLV hit a blistering .550 in the set to continue pulling away for a 25-12 set win.

Campbell became much sharper and had plenty of opportunities to take the second set and level the match. But with CU holding three match points at 24-21, UNLV went on a 4-0 run to take the lead. The Camels then held off four match points itself as the teams exchanged points with UNLV ultimately winning it 30-28. After a nearly clean first set, UNLV committed 11 attack errors in the second, but the Camels weren't able to capitalize.

The Camels didn't squander their chance in the third set and pulled out a 25-19 victory. The offense finally got rolling and hit .345 in the frame with 14 kills. Cook had four kills in the set, and Aley Clent added three on just four swings.

It looked as though Campbell had forced a fifth set, but replay overturned the potential match point in the fourth to level the score at 26-all. From there UNLV made the most of its second chance and put the match away with a 29-27 win in the fourth set to take the match 3-1.

Chloe Cook paced the offense with a team-high 11 kills. Claranne Fechter tallied a team-high 18 digs, and McKenna Sciacca and Maddie Converse split assists nearly even with 17 and 16, respectively.

Sciacca was named to the all-tournament team after collecting 59 assists on the weekend.

Campbell returns to action Thursday in Greenville, N.C. at the Pirate Invitational. The Camels take on East Carolina Thursday at 7 p.m.
