Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Campbell falls 1-0 to defending CAA champion Hofstra

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Campbell women's soccer had productive defense in the first half, but ultimately fell to defending CAA champions Hofstra, 1-0, on a rainy Sunday afternoon at Hofstra Soccer Stadium.

The Camels fell to 2-3-2 (0-1-1 CAA) on the season, and the Pride improved to 4-2 (1-0). This marks the first conference loss in over a year for the Camels, as they went 7-0-2 in Big South play last season.

Campbell's defense held steady in the first half, holding Hofstra to a 0-0 draw through the first 45 minutes. Goalkeeper JLo Varada recorded four saves in the first half to keep the Camels level.

Hofstra broke the deadlock in the 53rd minute when preseason All-CAA member Wiktoria Fronc found the back of the net from 35 yards out. It was the Pride's ninth shot of the game.

The Fighting Camels' lone shot on goal in the match came by way of Alyssa Tucker in the 69th minute. She fired it to the top-left corner, but Hofstra's Skylar Kuzmich was up to the task to drive the ball away from goal.

Hofstra led the Camels 5-2 in corner kicks, while the Camels only committed six fouls to the Pride's 14.

QUOTABLE
Head Coach Jeff Gross

"Two tough road games to open conference play is a good test. We put in another good physical effort and some fight, which we know this group will put together. We will continue to work to create chances and convert them. This will be the challenge this group will have to accept going forward."
