BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Adam Yousfi scored the only goal of the game in the 75th minute and Samy Slimi recorded his first career shutout Tuesday to lift Campbell to a 1-0 victory over VMI at Eakes Athletics Complex.
Campbell (1-1-3) picked up its first win of the season while the Keydets (1-4) dropped their third straight.
"It was a tough game, credit to VMI they worked really hard and made it difficult on us. We controlled the ball but didn't get a ton of good chances. We talked about that in the huddle that we just have to be more effective in front of the goal. We found the one that mattered and got our first win which hopefully we can build on as we host Hofstra this weekend."
In a scoreless first half, the Camels had six shots in the first 26 minutes including two on frame from Adrien Gameiro and Yousfi.
The Camels finally broke through in the 75th minute when Marco Wright played a ball into the box to Tai-Reece Chisholm who took one touch and played it off for Yousfi who fired it in for his fourth goal of the season and first career game-winner.
Yousfi, who is coming of a two-goal performance at Drexel, led the Camels with five shots including two on target. On the season the Caluire Et Curie, France native has recorded a point in four of five matches, leading the team with four goals and one assist.
Slimi posted his first career shutout without making a save thanks to a Campbell backline that limited the Keydets to just four shots, including none on frame.
The Camels finished with 19 shots on the night, edging the Keydets 4-0 in attempts on target and 9-1 on corners.
Campbell returns to action Saturday against CAA preseason favorites Hofstra. Kickoff from Eakes is set for 7:00 PM.
