Newark, Del. – Campbell picked up its first CAA win with a four-set victory over Delaware Sunday afternoon. The win gets Campbell to 4-8, 1-1 in the league.
A day after a season-high in service errors, the Camels found plenty of success serving today with 12 aces during the match. Fechter led the way with four while four other Camels had two each.
Campbell got off to a blazing start matching its largest set win of the year at 25-11. Campbell had just seven kills but benefited from five aces and 11 Blue Hen attack errors to hold the hosts to -.114 hitting in the first.
Chloe Cook and
Gwen Wolkow each had three kills and two aces in the opening frame.
The second set proved to be a battle the whole way through, with Delaware ultimately taking it 30-28. Most of the set was separated by just a point as the teams went back and forth throughout. Campbell found itself holding off four set points and one of its own it couldn't convert on. Delaware finished off the set with a likk and a block to even the match at 1-1.
Campbell used a 7-0 run in the middle of the third set to pull away from the Blue Hens and take a 2-1 lead in the match. The serve was big for the Camels again in the third set adding three more aces in the frame, with two coming from Fechter during the run.
Cook powered the Camels through the fourth set with six of her team-high 16 kills coming in the last set. Campbell took its first lead at 7-6 in the fouth and did not trail again on the way to a road CAA win.
Abbie Tuyo and Wolkow joined Cook in double figure kills with 14 and 11, respectively.
Claranne Fechter posted a match-high 23 digs while
Maddie Converse had a match-high 36 assists. Tuyo, Wolkow, and Converse all logged double-doubles on the day as well.
Campbell returns home to face William & Mary next weekend. First serve both Saturday and Sunday is set for 1 p.m.
