Campbell battles Delaware to 1-1 draw in CAA opener

BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Campbell and Delaware battled to a 1-1 draw Saturday afternoon at Eakes Athletics Complex.

It marked the first CAA game for the Camels (0-0-2, 0-0-1) who scored first but allowed an equalizing goal from the Blue Hens (2-0-1, 0-0-1) in the second half.

In the 18th minute, Teva Lossec found a deflected ball at the top of the 18-yard box and put it away for his first goal as a Camel.

Campbell had a chance to add another in the 28th minute as a shot by Tai-Reece Chisholm was blocked by a defender and went out for a corner.

In the 49th minute, the Blue Hens' Cristobal Granada fired a shot from the edge of the box that forced Campbell keeper Samy Slimi to make a leaping save. Ethan Williams provided another close scoring opportunity in the 52nd minute as his shot hit off the left post. Delaware eventually drew things even in the 57th minute as Justin Ruth scored off a long throw-in from Sean Smith.

The Camels had its best look to retake the lead in the 72nd minute as a cross by Curtis De Leon found a diving Gerard Broussard whose header narrowly missed outside the left post.

Campbell is back in action on Tuesday in its first road test of the season at #15 UNC Greensboro.
