BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Three different Demon Deacons scored as #5/10 Wake Forest defeated Campbell 3-1 Tuesday at the Eakes Athletics Complex.
Wake Forest (6-1-3) built a two goal lead by halftime and handed Campbell (1-3-4) back-to-back losses for the first time since 2018.
The Demon Deacons, ranked #5 nationally by Top Drawer Soccer and #10 in the United Soccer Coaches poll, tallied goals from Jake Swallen and Garrison Tubbs in the first 19 minutes to take a 2-0 lead at the break.
Campbell responded as Jorhan Chopin recorded his first collegiate goal less than 90 seconds into the second half on an assist from Adam Yousfi. Pressure from Yousfi on the Wake Forest backline forced a turnover inside the box by the Demon Deacons' keeper. Yousfi played the ball back to the middle of the box for Chopin who buried it into the bottom right corner.
The Fighting Camels nearly found the back of the net again in the 55th minute as Kyoji Hata's free kick from just over midfield found Steven Johnson-Fikula who headed it to Filipe Matos inside the box. Matos fired on goal but his shot went just sailed over the top left corner of the goal frame.
In the 83rd minute, Wake Forest added insurance as Jake Swallen and Cristian Escribano fed Julian Kennedy who slotted the ball away.
Campbell returns to action on Saturday as its hosts Northeastern in CAA action. Kickoff is set for 7 PM.
