BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Bissafi Dotte scored the game's only goal and Campbell defeated Northeastern 1-0 Saturday night at Eakes for its first CAA victory.
The Camels (2-3-4, 1-2-2) picked up three points in the CAA while Northeastern (3-3-3, 1-2-2) dropped its second conference game.
"It was a total team performance, the guys really bought into working together today," said Campbell head coach Dustin Fonder. "It wasn't the cleanest performance but when you're gritty like that, you're tough to beat."
Dotte, who made his 70th career appearance in the Orange & Black, gave the Camels the lead in the 85th minute when Ugo Bertelli's free kick was headed into the front of the goal by Owen Mikoy and tipped into the back of the net by the fifth-year captain.
Campbell nearly doubled its advantage twice after the goal as Tai-Reece Chisholm missed just wide after a pass into the box from Adam Yousfi while Adrien Gameiro missed on a penalty kick in the 87th minute.
Samy Slimi provided a stellar performance in goal for the Camels, finishing with a career-high eight saves and recorded his second shutout of the season. He preserved Campbell's lead after making a diving save in the 88th minute on a shot by Fraser Brown.
Northeastern finished with a 16-8 edge in shots, 8-2 on goal and took four corners to Campbell's one.
The Camels move to 34-5-10 in their last 49 matches at the Eakes Complex, including a 2-1-3 mark this season.
"This game gives us life," Fonder said. "We have three CAA games left and we probably have to get max points out of them but at least have a chance. We just made the back half of the season very meaningful."
Campbell returns to action on Tuesday at Old Dominion for the start of a three-game road stretch including trips to VCU and Elon.Â
