BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Campbell women's basketball held its first official team practice of the 2023-24 season on Wednesday.
Head coach Ronny Fisher, who enters his eighth season at the helm, along with assistant coaches Lindsay Bowen, Megan Hall and Lakeisha Gregory provided instruction for the Camels in their first full team workout.
"The energy was great and we looked like a determined team and that's fun to coach," said Fisher. "I love that we have a good mixture of some veterans that have been here a while and some youth that look good and are ready to go."
Campbell returns all but one player from last year's team that including Svenia Nurenberg, Shy Tuelle, Brittany Staves, Christabel Ezumah, Sarah Hammack Fitzgerald, Audrey Fuller, Courtney Dahlquist, Gianni Boone, Logan Nuckols and Gemma Nunez. The Fighting Camels were also joined by freshmen Hadleigh Dill, Peris Smith and Jessica Woods along with walk-on guard Taylor Cotter.
Fisher had high praise for his veteran group led by Tuelle in her sixth season along with fifth-year players Nurenberg and Staves and a pair of seniors in Ezumah and Hammack Fitzgerald.
"Our upperclassmen have been amazing, not only in practice today but for the past four, five and six years," Fisher said. "They've given everything for this program and today it felt like it was their first day of practice. That's how excited they were to be here with the energy they showed. They all have great experience and provide leadership and when you have players playing that level it does help those freshmen to see the standards. I'm really proud of that."
The regular season opener is Nov. 6 at home against NC Wesleyan, while Jan. 5 marks Campbell's first CAA game on the road at Stony Brook.
