Jasmine Nivar was a unanimous selection as the CAA Rookie of the Year, the conference announced Wednesday morning. She was also named to the All-CAA Third Team and the All-CAA Rookie Team. Fellow freshman
N'na Konate joined her on the conference's all-rookie team in addition to being selected to the All-CAA Defensive Team.
A standout from Day One, Nivar is the third freshman in program history to win a conference Rookie of the Year award, joining Felecia Autry ('95) and Crystal Clary ('01) who won the award in the Atlantic Sun Conference.
Nivar sits third in CAA history with eight CAA Rookie of the Week awards. She is also one of only four players from Division I this season to win their conference's rookie of the week award eight or more times. She was the only unanimous major award winner in the conference this year.
Nivar leads the team in scoring with 11.5 points per game, which bumps up to 11.9 in conference play. She has scored double figures 19 times this year and leads the team with three 20-point performances. The Apex, N.C. native took over point guard duties during league play and has dished out a team-high 2.6 assists against CAA foes. She is fifth in the CAA in steals per game and 14
th in blocked shots, helping the Camel defense back to its status as one of the best in the country.
Nivar opened the season with a 20-point performance against Tulane, becoming the fifth freshman in program history to record a 20-point performance, and the first to do so in their collegiate premiere. She was named to the Tamika Catchings Award preseason watch list by the USBWA as one of two mid-major players out of the 20-player list.
A freshman from Switzerland, Konate took over the starting role halfway through the season and has become the anchor for the best defense in the conference. She is tied for second in the CAA in total blocks and fourth in blocks per game, as the Camels sit 17
th in the country in rejections.
Konate recorded 14 games this year with multiple blocks, 10 of which came against league opponents. She tallied three blocks against UNCW (1/27) helping the Camels set a new program record of 13 blocks in a game.
Konate sits fifth in program history for blocks in a season. She is two rejections shy of moving into fourth place, and she is the third freshman to make the top 10. Her averages across the board experienced a jump when moving to CAA play, where she's shooting nearly 50% from the field and 70% from the free throw line.
