Buies Creek, N.C. – Campbell won its home opener in five sets over NC Central Tuesday night in Buies Creek. The Camels rebounded after dropping the first set to pick up a second straight win on the young season.
 
The win takes Campbell to 2-5, while NC Central drops to 1-4.
 
Abbie Tuyo continues to set career-highs, setting her new high-water mark at 16 kills to lead all Camels on the evening. Chloe Cook added 15 to the Campbell attack. It was as balanced an effort as could be defensively, with five different Camels notching 10+ digs lead by Claranne Fechter's 16. Gwen Wolkow and Chloe Cook each posted double-doubles with kills and digs, and Converse had one with assists and digs.
 
Campbell got off to a slow start by dropping the opening frame 25-17. Despite hitting .304 in the frame, five service errors plagued Campbell early on.
 
The Camels bounced back to take the second and third sets. The CU defense stepped up to hold NCCU to hitting .000 in the second set, including five blocks in the frame. Campbell's offense led the charge in the third with 16 kills and a match-best .371 mark in the third.
 
Campbell's offense slowed down in the fourth and allowed NCCU to extend the match to a deciding fifth set. The Eagles shared the wealth on offense in the fourth with four players all notching three kills.
 
Campbell raced out to a 6-1 lead in the fifth and controlled the set the rest of the way. Melody Paige put a bow on the match with the final kill of the night.
 
The Camels now prepare for the Campbell Invitational this weekend, with Georiga Southern, San Jose State, and UTSA coming to Buies Creek. Campbell plays at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. Friday, and 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
