Campbell defeats Towson 69-59 for first CAA victory

Ezumah pours in career-high 24 points, Nunez adds career-best 12 as Camels snap five-game losing streak

BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Christabel Ezumah scored a career-high 24 points and Campbell picked up its first-ever CAA victory in a 69-59 win over Towson Sunday afternoon at Gore Arena.

Campbell snapped a five-game losing streak, its longest stretch without a win in the Ronny Fisher era, and improve to 8-7 overall and 1-3 in CAA play. Towson dropped its third straight and falls to 8-6 overall and 1-3 in league games.

The Camels used a 9-3 run to end the first quarter and never looked back, leading 35-30 at halftime and by as many as 12 in the second half.

Towson trimmed its deficit to five in the fourth quarter before Campbell put the defensive clamps down and held Towson scoreless for the final 4:52 of the game.

Ezumah scored her career-high of 24 on 10-of-16 shooting while adding eight boards, one assist and one block in just 21 minutes of action. It marks the third game this season the senior has scored 20 points or more.

Gemma Nunez chipped in a career-best 12 points for the Camels along with seven rebounds, four assists and two steals while Brittany Staves made 5-of-5 shots from the floor and finished with 13 points in 22 minutes off the bench.

Patricia Anumgba, who went 4-of-7 from behind the arc, led Towson with 21 points. Kylie Kornegay-Lucas, the CAA Preseason Player of the Year, finished with 17 points, six boards, seven assists and three steals.

CU limited Towson to 39.0 percent (23-of-59) from the field and outscored the Tigers 42-14 in the paint, 15-5 on second chance efforts, 7-1 on breaks and 19-13 from the bench.

Campbell shot 50.9 percent (28-of-55) from the floor marking the third time the team has made over 50 percent of its shots this season and the first time since Nov. 9 in a 68-55 win at Coppin State.

Campbell returns to action on the road next Friday in a 7 p.m. tip-off at UNCW before returning to Gore Arena on Sunday afternoon for a rematch against Stony Brook.
