BUIES CREEK – Campbell fell Saturday afternoon 90-67 to College of Charleston at Gore Arena. Campbell shot 55% for the game, but coughed up a season-high 21 turnovers on the day, resulting in taking 24 less shots than the Cougars.
The loss drops Campbell to 10-11, 4-4 in the CAA while Charleston improves to 16-6, 6-2.
Campbell never led in the contest, but hung tight early on in the first half. A
Tasos Cook three-pointer cut the lead to one point at 19-18 with 10 minutes to go in the first, but that was as close as Campbell would get the rest of the day. The Cougars pushed the lead to 16 before
Jasin Sinani hit a pull-up jumper at the horn to make it 43-29 at the half.
Charleston quickly extended the lead with the first three buckets of the second half and just continued growing it from there. The visitors eventually led by as many as 33 with 5:37 to play. Campbell chipped away to ultimately make the final deficit 23, falling by the score of 90-67.
Jasin Sinani led all scorers with a career-high 21 along with a game-high seven rebounds. The junior shot 7-9 from the floor, 2-2 from beyond the arc, and 5-6 at the stripe.
Laurynas Vaistaras and
Colby Duggan joined him in double figures with 11 and 10, respectively. Vaistaras also handed out a game-high four assists.
Charleston used a balanced attack all afternoon with five players scoring in double-figures, led by 16 from Ben Burnham. 10 different players scored, and five of them hit multiple three-points in the contest as they shot 12-39 from three on the afternoon. Charleston protected the ball as well, issuing only six turnovers.
The Camels face a pair of road games next week visiting Elon on Thursday and UNCW on Saturday. Both games are slated to tip-off at 7 p.m.
