Campbell drops CAA opener at NC A&T

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Campbell dropped its first game as a CAA member 76-62 Thursday night at NC A&T. Campbell shot just 34% as a team on the night in the setback.

Anthony Dell'Orso turned in his third double-double of the year with 24 points and 10 rebounds. The sophomore scored 18 in the second half, including 12 straight for the Camels during one stretch. He shot 7-17 from the floor, and was a perfect 8-8 at the foul line.

The foul line has been good to Campbell lately, going 18-19 at the stripe tonight. The Camels have now gone 40-44 (91%) at the line in the past two games.

Campbell started out hot, with their first six buckets coming from beyond the arc. The Camels splashed five threes before the first media, and five different players hit one in the first seven minutes. The three-point barrage helped put the Camels up 20-13 and forced an A&T timeout. The Aggies came out of the timeout  and put together an 18-0 run as the Camels went scoreless for nearly nine minutes. The drought left Campbell trailing 33-25 at the half.

The offense was better in the second half, shooting 47%, but that was simply going shot-for-shot with the Aggies who shot 51% percent after halftime. A&T pushed the lead to as many as 21 with 11:52 to play. Campbell wasn't able to cut much into the lead and ultimately fell 76-62.

Laurynas Vaistaras and Jasin Sinani joined Dell'Orso in double figures with 13 and 10, respectively, and Elijah Walsh added seven off the bench.

Landon Glasper led the Aggies with 19 points, and Camian Shell just behind at 18. Jason Murphy had a double-double of his own with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Campbell returns to action Saturday at Hampton. Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m. on FloHoops.
