Box Score HAMPTON, VA. – The Fighting Camels earned their first CAA win with an 80-69 victory over Hampton Saturday afternoon. The Camels trailed by three at the break but used a big second half where they shot 58% to pull away.
The win takes Campbell to 7-8, 1-1 on the season. Hampton drops to 4-11, 0-3.
Anthony Dell'Orso continued his hot stretch, scoring 19 today after going for 24 on Thursday night. He did so without a triple and all seven made FGs in the paint.
Jasin Sinani poured in 18 on an efficient 5-8 from the floor and knocked down three triples on the night.
Campbell had no answer for Tedrick Wilcox, Jr. in the first half, as the Hampton guard had 18 before halftime. Wilcox led the way, but Hampton shot it at 51% in the first half to carry a three-point lead into the break.
The Camels locked Wilcox down in the second half to hold him scoreless and limit him to just two shot attempts.
Elijah Walsh provided a spark for Campbell's offense in the second, scoring 13 points including eight straight at one point. CU's defense forced the Pirates into a six-minute scoring drought beginning at the 10-minute mark that turned into a 15-0 Campbell run. The run saw Campbell's lead go from just four to 19, Campbell's largest of the night. Campbell eventually held on to win by 11, 80-69.
Campbell was steady at the stripe again going 18-24 on the evening while Hampton struggled there, shooting just 9-20.
Kyrese Mullen had a big night for Hampton, with 16 points and 15 rebounds, including seven on the offensive glass.
Laurynas Vaistaras joined the other three Camels (Dell'Orso, Sinani, Walsh) in double figures with 14, along with a team-high six rebounds and four steals.
The Camels now return home for the first time since Dec. 18 to host Delaware on Jan. 11. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. and will be streamed on FloHoops.
