Campbell falls at Monmouth 49-47

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - Jania Hall made a pair of free throws with 7.8 seconds to lift Monmouth over Campbell 49-47 Sunday afternoon at the OceanFist Bank Center.

Monmouth improves to 8-5 overall and 1-1 in CAA play while Campbell falls to 7-6 and 0-2 in league games.

Kaci Donovan led the Hawks with 11 points while Hall added 10, including eight in the second half alone. Campbell was led by 13 points from Christabel Ezumah and 11 from Shy Tuelle.

The Camels jumped out to a 13-0 lead to start the game and led 19-12 at the end of the first quarter behind eight points in the period from Tuelle.

Monmouth cut the deficit to 25-24 at halftime and took its first lead with 3:19 left in the 3Q. The Hawks took their largest lead of the game at 41-38 before Campbell answered with back-to-back threes from Tuelle and Svenia Nurenberg.

Hall's driving layup tied the game at 47-47 with 57 seconds left and put Monmouth ahead with her free throws with less than eight seconds remaining. Campbell had a good look at tying the game as Gemma Nunez' layup rolled off the iron as time expired.

Campbell shot 35.4 percent (17-of-48) from the floor and 47.1 percent (8-of-17) from three while the Hawks made 34.0 percent (18-of-53) from the field, 27.8 percent (5-of-18) from range and made 8-of-10 shots from the charity stripe.

Monmouth outscored the Camels 16-3 in second chance points, 24-18 in points in the paint and won the rebound battle 42-24.

Tuelle moved up to 14th on the program's all-time scoring list, totaling 1,234 points in her career.

Campbell returns home to host Elon on Friday, Jan. 12 followed by Towson on Sunday, Jan. 14.
